bought lots of yarn…

KnitPicks had (and may still have) a promo code that gave you a free ball of Chroma with a $25 purchase, so I took advantage of that (I’ve never tried Chroma, have you?).  I bought yarn to crochet the Coming Up Roses Hat, and whatever’s left I’ll use to knit a Totoro Hat.  Dunno what I’ll do with the Chroma yet; depends on how soft it is, etc.  Here are the colors of Comfy Worsted and Comfy Worsted Heather Special Reserve that I purchased:

That’s all I’ve got for today.  I haven’t done much for the past few days (as far as yarncrafts go) but I’ve got an idea for a future crochet blanket that I already have yarn for and a few other things, as well!  I’m gonna have so many WIPs…  How many do you usually have?

Thanks for stopping by, see you soon!

as-we-go stripey blanket crochet-a-long 2 year anniversary!

It’s been 2 years since we started the As-We-Go Stripey Blanket Crochet-A-Long!  Doesn’t seem like that long to me!

as we go stripey blanketClick the link above to be taken to the free pattern, where you can view it online or download it as a PDF (there’s a photo tutorial version and also a shorter version for printing)!

And I owe a huge thanks to everyone who’s made the blanket (I was really surprised by the number of blankets out there, and definitely honored!) as well as to Julie, the author of the blog Little Woolie, for the pattern inspiration!  Check out her blog for so much lovely stuff!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Feel free to browse around to see the crochet and knitting tutorials and patterns available here on Not Your Average Crochet — everything’s in the drop-down menu!

Here’s a final photo of my dog on the blanket:

crochet Angel scarf: begin!

Already frustrated.  Firstly with myself for spending almost $4 on a pattern that’s just treble shells (I should have noticed that), and secondly with my scarf, which isn’t looking like the one on the pattern page (although I bet blocking would help, but probably not that much).  Thirdly because the photos aren’t doing the beautiful yarn justice.

I’m thinking about ripping this out.  I’ve already spent hours on it already but the yarn is so great I want to use it for an item I’ll actually use.  The yarn is from Welthase on Etsy, by the way.

*sigh* I’ll look up patterns on Ravelry and see what else I could make…

That’s all for now.  Thanks for stoppping by!

5 yarn shops to visit on Etsy (& 9 I want to try!)

5 yarn shops to visit on etsy

Shops you should visit:

Supernatural Yarns

I purchased book/movie themed yarn from this store called “Effie – Nymph Sock” and it was great — no knots, soft, lovely colors.

Welthase

I purchased multiple yarns from this store, the “lace merinosilk,” the “lace supersilk,” and the “BFL sporty DK,” all of which are lovely.  The silk in particular is super-soft, and the dyes for all of them are beautiful.  No knots.

Dye For Yarn & Dye For Wool

This is kind of two for one, but these shops are run by the same lovely ladies (who provide excellent customer service, by the way — like for realsies, they are SO nice).  I’ve used their “merino/babycamel” fingering weight yarn and it is SO soft, SO gorgeous, and I liked it so much I’ve used it in a giveaway (and there’s more where that came from — stay tuned for more of that this year!).  Oh and no knots!

Ruth Plus Two

From this fellow blogger I have purchased some cute stitch markers, but I’d love to try the yarn too!

Brazen Stitchery

This shop has moved to it’s own domain but you can find it through the remaining Etsy shop.  I purchased another book/movie themed yarn from them, their “District 12” sock yarn, and it was soft, warm, and nice to use.  And no knots.

Shops I want to try:

KnitCircus Yarns

I really want to try their gradient yarns, they’re really pretty!

Two Black Sheep Yarn

Again, gorgeous gradients.  I want them all.

Ozifarmer’s Market

Not only do they have gorgeous gradients, but I’ve heard the yarn quality is really nice too!

Wollelfe

Beautiful, giant gradients!

V Yarn

Geeky themed colorways, including Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, Downton Abbey, Sherlock, and many more!

Kettle Yarn Co.

These just look like gorgeous colors.  Love!

We Will Tell You All of Our Secrets

The colorways are pretty, and the maker designs great patterns too!

crocheTime

Run by another fellow blogger, this store has some brands I’ve been itching to try!

Natali Sterwart Hand Dyed Yarn, Fiber, & Textiles

Lovely dark gradients and colorways.

So have you tried any of these stores before?  I’d love to know if you’ve tried any yarns from any of the stores listed, particularly the ones I’m wanting to try!  Are they good?

Thanks for stopping by, see you soon!
