intro to tunisian crochet

The style of tunisian crochet (aka ‘aran crochet’ or ‘afghan crochet’) has been intriguing me for a while.  It is theoretically a quick way to crochet that also happens to look and progress more like knitting, and from what I’ve seen online you can easily put multicolor pictures into your work — that’s what I really want to try!

For tunisian crochet, you use a long hook with a knob on the end because you keep multiple stitches on it at the same time.  You can get straight hooks or hooks with flexible extensions, both available in various lengths:
