as-we-go stripey blanket crochet-a-long 2 year anniversary!

It’s been 2 years since we started the As-We-Go Stripey Blanket Crochet-A-Long!  Doesn’t seem like that long to me!

And I owe a huge thanks to everyone who’s made the blanket (I was really surprised by the number of blankets out there, and definitely honored!) as well as to Julie, the author of the blog Little Woolie, for the pattern inspiration!  Check out her blog for so much lovely stuff!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Feel free to browse around to see the crochet and knitting tutorials and patterns available here on Not Your Average Crochet — everything’s in the drop-down menu!

Here’s a final photo of my dog on the blanket:

  1. Love the dog too, he/she is gorgeous!

  2. This blanket is on my to do list. Hopefully I will get to start on it this fall. Right now I have a page full of projects ahead of it!

  3. Wow! I can’t believe it has been 2 years either! It is such an awesome blanket and I do hope to one day make one. Thank you so much for sharing it with everyone.

  4. 2 years?! Wow! I love mine so much. No-one is allowed to use it. It is for looking at and admiring only!

  5. Great job!! I love the colors and different textures!

  6. Mine will take another two years to complete!! Thank you for the tutorial and the photo’s!!

  7. This may sound weird but is the pattern in UK or US terms ?

  8. Wow, I can’t believe this was two years ago! I think this is the still the project that I am most proud of! It is always sat on my sofa for when I want to snuggle up…I’m wrapped up in it now!

  9. I have ordered my wool and I am about to start soon, I am nervous as I am a novice crocheter I hope i can do it x

  10. I’m going to make one some day. Maybe in two more years. I’m all blanketed out ATM!

    • I know how you feel. I just finished one and am working on 2 more…….

      • I’ve made the rhubarb ripple, the stripy one and the motif is on the downward slope to being complete now. Someone I know asked me to maybe make a blanket for the cousin (who I’ve never met). They underestimate the hours and hours which go into them!

        • People really have no idea unless they’re crafters of some sort too, it seems. People tend to be surprised when they ask me to make them items when I tell them how long it would take or how tricky it could be, and they’re always shocked when I mention a price (most of which is just for nice yarn!).

I am so amped about starting mine! Do you have a list of the colors in order? Got my yarn last week.

  12. Im still really new to crochet and i want to make this blanket…. i was wondering if there is a video to help me.. i find that having access to youtube helps me with new stitches etc thank you

    • I’m sorry Penny but I didn’t make a video, and I don’t have a setup to be able to use my phone camera to make one now (that probably wouldn’t work well, anyway). If you decide to try the blanket anyway, feel free to ask any questions you come across!

    Hi Hannah,
I am about to start this beautiful blanket. Can I do it with a worsted weight yarn and, if so, what size hook should I use.
    Thanks for sharing your talent!!!
    Gayle

    • I’m so glad you like it! You can certainly use a worsted weight yarn. If you chain the same number that I did (you’ll see in the pattern) you will get a wider blanket, but just use whatever hook the yarn recomends! I’d probably do a J hook myself because I think that would give the fabric a good structure but still not be too stiff. Hope that helps!

  15. What a beautiful blanket, I love all the different colours
