new yarn for more new projects

I’ve got so many WIPs right now!  There’s the little diamonds afghan, the kitty ripple and the Hermione hat, and the socks (which I have not touched at all).  Even so, I’m starting more projects.  Mom liked my wrap so I told her I’d make her one, too, and the yarn just came in!  She wanted an off-white, creamy color, so I got more KnitPicks Palette Yarn in Oyster Heather and Cream colors, which are so similar you can barely tell the difference in my pictures:

Again, the pattern for this is here if you want to check it out.

My second new project is a knitted Weasley sweater from “Harry Potter.”  It’s my first time knitting a sweater so I hope it goes alright.  I got some Universal Yarn: Classic Worsted in Night and Primrose shades (the Primrose is for the giant H that goes on the front — H for Hannah).  I know it’s nerdy and I know it’s knitting, but I can’t help but give it a shot, it makes me so happy.  Here’s what I’ve got so far:

The bottom edge is supposed to curl.  Measuring from the curl up I’ve got 8 inches so far (done in 3 days), which is good progress, I think.

The yarn is an acrylic/wool combo, so it’s soft but should be warm, and should keep shape pretty well.  It was also pretty cheap, at $5.50 a skein, so since I’ll need about 10 skeins (according to the yardage required by the pattern), I’m glad I found this yarn at the local yarn shop.

Hopefully next time I’ll have more progress on crocheted items, and I’ll try to keep my Weasley sweater posts to a minimum since it is knitting. See you next time!

update

My Kitty Ripple #1, which is to be donated to PetSmart for their kitties up for adoption, is halfway done.  It’s a little small, but I only bought 2 skeins and this is one of them:

There’s more green in the pictures than is showing up, for some reason, but it does have lots of reds/pinks.

I’ve also got a knitting update: my Hermione hat is coming along nicely:

And the desk that I took these pictures on is new!  I got some new furniture this week, and I’m going for the whole “shabby chic” or “cottage” style, as well as affordability and functionality.  I think I’ve done a good job, so I’ll share with you:

Here’s our new IKEA couch that I got on Craigslist.  I think I’m going to dye the off-white slipcover, because with a dog and a boyfriend it’s not going to stay off-white for very long.  This couch is replacing two old nasty couches, freeing up space and looking nicer.

This new yellow-green side table is beside the new couch, and it replaced a black plastic/metal table.

We needed storage and I had no place to do my homework except spread out on the couch, where the dog loved to walk all over it.  Now, we’ve solved those problems and added a durable and adorable desk to our living room!  I love the teal top!

I had to purchase a light yellow chair for the desk because we don’t have any chairs small enough to fit under it.  I’m hoping to crochet a cushion for the chair soon!

Tomorrow I’m going to pick up a hutch, as well, to replace our DVD stand that’s falling apart and an ugly cabinet we’ve been keeping by the door.  I’m excited about it — I’ll show you next time!

That’s all for today, but hopefully I’ll have more yarny progress soon!  Thanks for stopping by!

back to the hook

Here’s the crochet stuff!  I started something new: a ripple blanket (pattern here)!  It’s not an ordinary ripple blanket though, it’s a little one, and I’m making it to donate to PetSmart!  I noticed on a visit there today that there were some crocheted and knitted little blankets in the kennels of the adoptable kitties, and I asked an associate if I could just bring some in, and he said yes!  I got some cheap, colorful, slightly grandma-looking yarn from Hobby Lobby and started Kitty Ripple #1:

While I was there, I saw some really cute scissors that I had to get, as well:

But as it turns out, they kinda suck at cutting things.  I had to snip a few times to get through my yarn.  They’re pretty to look at, I guess.

Well, I’m going to go work some more on the ripple.  Thanks for stopping by!

don’t hate me

I don’t have any crochet to share with you today.  I know, I said I don’t like to do this (and it’s true), but I’ve got so much to share with you toady that I just can’t hold it all in!  So much has been going on!  There is yarny stuff, though, and other awesome things!

my non-yarn hobbies:

Friendship bracelets might seem like something for middle school girls at summer camp, but I still like them, and so do my friends!

The first one’s on me, the second on my boyfriend, and the third is in progress!

My next artsy thing is an impression of an impressionist (Monet), done by fingerpainting!

It’s less detailed than the original, of course, because I didn’t use a brush and I didn’t mix as many colors, but I think it turned out pretty cool looking.  My dog, above, was not impressed in the slightest.

the yarny stuff:

I know I showed you the knitted hat I made that was patterned after a hat Hermione wore in one of the “Harry Potter” movies.  I messed it up though, by skipping about 10 total rows throughout, so the hat was too short.  I’m doing it again, hopefully in time for my England trip this winter.  Here’s what I’ve got:

So far, so good.  It’s slow going though — it is knitting, after all.  I wish there was a crochet version!  I was trying to make one myself, but apparently I’m no good at complicated pattern writing, so there’s nothing to show for that.

Thanks for reading this post that was distinctly lacking in crocheted items!  I’m just excited to share other crafty things in my life with you.  I’ll get back to crochet asap, I promise.

it’s a wrap!

I’m finished with the wrap/shawl!  The pattern is here if you want to check it out.  It wasn’t too hard, it just took a lot of time because it calls for fingering weight yarn.  So here’s the finished product:

Yay!  I like it a lot.  The yarn also did cool things as I was unraveling it, so I took a picture:

It’s like a flower!  Ok, I know this post was short but I’m on a caffeine high and I want to go fingerpaint with my boyfriend and have childlike fun.  See you later!
