ta-da!

I finished my mom’s shawl for our England trip this Christmas!  The free pattern is found here, and you might recognize it from my first one that was made for myself.  Here it is:

I’m excited about the result!  I think I’m going to suggest to my mom that she wash it and block it to stretch the ends a little more, like I’m planning to do with mine.  This shawl does not have the tassels on the ends that are included in the pattern — Mom preferred hers without them, and I think it looks just as good.  I also love the creamy colors!

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now, but I’m going to try and post a little more than I have been lately — I know I’ve been really slack about it.  Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

lots of things

It’s been a while!  A few days, anyway.  I’ve been hoping that my final giveaway items would come in the mail, but they haven’t.  I talked to someone at the company they were shipping from and got it all straightened out, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before the giveaway starts!  I’m sorry for the delay.  It’s annoying to me, too.  In the meantime:

I started another Juliana Wrap, but this one’s not for me.  It’s for my mom!  She wanted cream colors, so I got some from Knitpicks and have gotten this far (which is not very).

I ordered some yarn on tophatter.com, which is my new favorite website for spending money needlessly, and it came in the other day.  I’m excited.  It’s a total of 500 yards of recycled worsted weight yarn (50% wool, 20% viscose, 15% nylon, 10% angora, 5% cashmere).  I don’t know what to make with it yet, I just bought it on a whim.  It’s good that I have it now though because I spent way too much money on that website, and now I must scrounge to get through the next couple of months.  I probably won’t be buying more yarn anytime soon.  That’s OK though, because I have quite the stash!

Well, hopefully my next post will be announcing the beginning of my giveaway.  I hope the items come in tomorrow!  Should be any time now.  See you soon!

new yarn for more new projects

I’ve got so many WIPs right now!  There’s the little diamonds afghan, the kitty ripple and the Hermione hat, and the socks (which I have not touched at all).  Even so, I’m starting more projects.  Mom liked my wrap so I told her I’d make her one, too, and the yarn just came in!  She wanted an off-white, creamy color, so I got more KnitPicks Palette Yarn in Oyster Heather and Cream colors, which are so similar you can barely tell the difference in my pictures:

Again, the pattern for this is here if you want to check it out.

My second new project is a knitted Weasley sweater from “Harry Potter.”  It’s my first time knitting a sweater so I hope it goes alright.  I got some Universal Yarn: Classic Worsted in Night and Primrose shades (the Primrose is for the giant H that goes on the front — H for Hannah).  I know it’s nerdy and I know it’s knitting, but I can’t help but give it a shot, it makes me so happy.  Here’s what I’ve got so far:

The bottom edge is supposed to curl.  Measuring from the curl up I’ve got 8 inches so far (done in 3 days), which is good progress, I think.

The yarn is an acrylic/wool combo, so it’s soft but should be warm, and should keep shape pretty well.  It was also pretty cheap, at $5.50 a skein, so since I’ll need about 10 skeins (according to the yardage required by the pattern), I’m glad I found this yarn at the local yarn shop.

Hopefully next time I’ll have more progress on crocheted items, and I’ll try to keep my Weasley sweater posts to a minimum since it is knitting. See you next time!

it’s a wrap!

I’m finished with the wrap/shawl!  The pattern is here if you want to check it out.  It wasn’t too hard, it just took a lot of time because it calls for fingering weight yarn.  So here’s the finished product:

Yay!  I like it a lot.  The yarn also did cool things as I was unraveling it, so I took a picture:

It’s like a flower!  Ok, I know this post was short but I’m on a caffeine high and I want to go fingerpaint with my boyfriend and have childlike fun.  See you later!

newest project: wrap

Honestly I didn’t really care for the way my recent sweater turned out.  The more I look at it the more I think ‘eh, it’s OK, but do I actually want to wear it?’  It doesn’t really fit quite right and I’d have to adjust it often.  So instead, I decided to make something else to take on my Christmas trip to England this year (and if I like it I might make my mom one, too).  I’m about to start on this (pattern here).

I love it because the cute tassels add a little weight to keep it in place.  I decided to make it in a more reddish color though (orange is not my thing), and my yarn just came in today!  I got it from Knitpicks, and it’s the Palette Yarn fingering weight in Rose Hip and Raspberry Heather shades:

I’m really excited about this yarn because it’s the first time I’ve ever bought yarn online without knowing what the brand feels like, and it’s actually really soft for 100% wool! It was also really appealing because of its cheap price, and I’ll definitely be buying from Knitpicks again.  I’m gonna get started on this project tonight, hopefully, while listening to the audiobook of the current Pern novel I’m on, Dragonseye.  (It’s really good, as are all the other ones I’ve read, and I recommend them highly).

On another subject that I really want to share with you, my boyfriend is starting a garden on our back patio.  He’s growing all kinds of peppers and tomatoes and herbs, and his goal is to make salsas and chowchows soon.  In his shopping at the Home Depot for plant necessities, he bought me a plant and pot of my own (he’s so sweet):

Isn’t he cute?  I named him Albert.  He’s a succulent, which I think are gorgeous, and they’re pretty hard to kill which is perfect for me (I kill every plant I touch, even aloe plants).  Hopefully Albert the Succulent will live — I think he’s so sweet!

So that’s all for today, thanks for stopping by!
