finished: Luna scarf

In less than 24 hours, this scarf was finished.  Again, here’s the pattern.  I used an E hook instead of a G because all I had was some leftover yarn, and it was thinner than what was called for.  It matches my knitted Hermione hat though, so that’s awesome.  My changes did result in it being a tad short, but it’s still totally cute and wearable.

So that’s it!  An easy one-day project that turned out very pretty (and just like the scarf from the movie).

Thanks for stopping by!  Sorry for barraging you with multiple posts all of a sudden — I just like to post them as soon as the project is done. 🙂

new project: Luna scarf

I started another Harry Potter related project today, and I’m already halfway through!  The scarf Luna Lovegood wears in one of the movies has been turned into an easy crochet pattern (click here).  The scarf is different in that it’s worked from the center to the outside edge, and then the yarn is reattached and worked from the center to the other outside edge.  I’ve got the center to one edge now:

As you can see, it’s very lacy, so it’ll be ideal for fall.  Maybe I can finish it tonight, but my hands are starting to ache so I’d better take a break.  I have to go to class soon anyway…  But I hope I have enough yarn.  I’m using leftovers from my two knitted Hermione hats so I’m not exactly sure if it’ll make it.  Don’t want to have to go get another skein just to finish the last row.  I’m using a slightly thinner yarn than called for and a slightly smaller hook, but it’s still amply long and will be plenty wide when I’m done.

That’s all for right now.  Thanks for stopping by!

current projects

I’ve been working on 2 items, both Harry Potter related (I know, I’m such a nerd).

The first one is the hat Hermione wore in HP7 (pattern here).  It’s really pretty and doesn’t blatantly scream Harry Potter:

My second WIP is more obnoxious, or at least it has the potential to be.  I’m making a Weasley sweater (pattern here), and I’m still unsure of whether or not to add the giant H on the front.  In the movie of course it stands for Harry, but since my name is Hannah it would totally work.  But do I want to be that blatant of a fan?  We’ll have to see.  Here’s what I’ve got so far of the back piece:

And it’s about 14″ from the bottom, so I’m about halfway done with this section:

Can’t wait to make more progress in both of these!  Oh and I also have a sock, but I haven’t touched it in a while:

I managed the provisional cast on toe and then got burned out on how difficult I found it and how slow it was going, so I stopped for a while.

Thanks for viewing my current projects, I’ll update soon!

new yarn for more new projects

I’ve got so many WIPs right now!  There’s the little diamonds afghan, the kitty ripple and the Hermione hat, and the socks (which I have not touched at all).  Even so, I’m starting more projects.  Mom liked my wrap so I told her I’d make her one, too, and the yarn just came in!  She wanted an off-white, creamy color, so I got more KnitPicks Palette Yarn in Oyster Heather and Cream colors, which are so similar you can barely tell the difference in my pictures:

Again, the pattern for this is here if you want to check it out.

My second new project is a knitted Weasley sweater from “Harry Potter.”  It’s my first time knitting a sweater so I hope it goes alright.  I got some Universal Yarn: Classic Worsted in Night and Primrose shades (the Primrose is for the giant H that goes on the front — H for Hannah).  I know it’s nerdy and I know it’s knitting, but I can’t help but give it a shot, it makes me so happy.  Here’s what I’ve got so far:

The bottom edge is supposed to curl.  Measuring from the curl up I’ve got 8 inches so far (done in 3 days), which is good progress, I think.

The yarn is an acrylic/wool combo, so it’s soft but should be warm, and should keep shape pretty well.  It was also pretty cheap, at $5.50 a skein, so since I’ll need about 10 skeins (according to the yardage required by the pattern), I’m glad I found this yarn at the local yarn shop.

Hopefully next time I’ll have more progress on crocheted items, and I’ll try to keep my Weasley sweater posts to a minimum since it is knitting. See you next time!

finished Hermione’s HBP hat

I finished my knitted Hermione HBP hat, the pattern for which is on Ravelry here.  I’m honestly a little disappointed, which is really sad since I spent SO MUCH TIME on this!  I took so much care with the cables and learned new stitches to make the holes and everything, and the hat is short.  I wanted it to come down longer — I wish I could go back and add 10 more rows of the chart pattern.  I guess one drawback of knitting hats bottom up is that you can’t try it on as you go.  Maybe it will stretch?  I hope so — It’s so pretty and I’d so wear it if it was a little longer!

Edit: It’s my fault the hat was short — I was stupidly skipping 2 rows every so often and I skipped a total of 10 rows.  I’m going to have to make this hat again sometime and do it right!
