I’m sorry for the lack of posts. I’ve been away because my uncle passed away last Tuesday morning and I’ve been in Arkansas for the funeral. My parents and I just got back to South Carolina late last night.

Needless to say, I haven’t had much time for crafting, but I’m in a bit of a rut anyway. I don’t know what project to start next — it’s so hard to decide. There are some WIPs to work on, but they might just get ripped out… *sigh* Hopefully something will jump out at me soon and I can get back to sharing crafty posts with you all.

Well, I guess that’s it. Just wanted to let you all know what is going on on this end. Talk to you soon!

a pretty pattern and good advice

While browsing the Internet for lovely crochet patterns, I came across a rug, which appears in Simply Crochet magazine. I want to buy Issue #13 just for it! Dunno where in my home it would go, but that’s OK, right? It’s sooooo pretty!

The good advice is from Slugs on the Refrigerator, and it’s about lifelines in knitting. What are lifelines, you ask? They are a way to keep you from having to rip really far back in your knitting if you make a mistake. Essentially, they save your sanity. surprise appearance in “Inside Crochet”

A follower of NYAC’s facebook page alerted me today that I am in the 50th issue of “Inside Crochet!”

I was astonished (not the least because I’d had no idea about it) and immediately bought the issue on my iPad. Sure enough, there on page 6 was a small blurb about the as-we-go stripey blanket that was the focus of our first crochet along! I’m sincerely honored. There’s another CAL going on right now following the pattern (only it’s translated into Dutch), and I believe it’s #crochetalong2014 on Instagram. The blog for that current Dutch CAL is here.

Of course I’m very excited to be in a magazine, but I do wish the magazine had contacted me first so that I could have given credit to Julie over at Little Woolie — her blanket was the inspiration for mine and they are, after all, pretty similar. I almost feel like it’s cheating, being in the magazine when she’s not given credit. Well, she’s getting credit here; her blanket is amazing and she’s a great inspiration (she’s also a really nice person!).

Well, that’s my fun announcement for the day. I haven’t been crocheting or knitting at all in the past week so there’s nothing else really going on, but hopefully there will be soon. I’ve actually written up a new little Spring pattern that I will be sharing in the near future! Hope to see you back soon!

been busy — hats!

Hello everyone! I hope you’ve all been doing well. I apologize for my little break in blogging — I’ve just been so caught up in some positive changes at work! I do have some finished projects to share with you though, so here we go!

This is a baby hat made for my coworker Anna — she’s having a baby in February and we’re having a shower for her this Friday! This was done using KnitPicks Brava Bulky yarn and I used this hat pattern, which has different sizes available for any person’s head!

This second baby hat is a highly improvised version of a design. I don’t really like how it turned out but it does function the way I wanted it to — it’s really stretchy and can be rolled down to make it longer when Anna’s baby gets a bit bigger! The yarn used for this one was I Love This Cotton by Hobby Lobby.

This is the third Giftie Slouchie Beanie I’ve made (they only take a few hours), and it’s for my Uncle Bruce, who has recently discovered that he has cancer. It seems serious, but I haven’t been able to see him because he lives in Arkansas (which is a really long drive and I shouldn’t be taking off work yet, since I’m still a relatively new employee). My parents have seen him and they said that he might like a hat to keep his head warm, since he’s losing some hair. This hat was made with Berroco Vintage Chunky.

When my parents were in Arkansas recently, they also visited my Dad’s parents, who were incredibly generous and gave me this:

It’s an old Estey piano, and I believe my great-grandma bought it. Now it just needs to be tuned! I’m so happy to have a piano in my home — I took lessons for a long time when I aws younger and have started to miss playing.
