stitch markers: what’s your preference?

The other day a little package came in the mail with some new stitch markers (in small and large sizes) and little tins from Fripperies & Bibelots:

As you can see I got hearts, squares, and raindrop shaped markers, which I was concerned about when ordering — what if they weren’t practical, just cute?  Fortunately they are very practical, and here’s why:

  • They’re extremely lightweight
  • The small sizes are not bulky when on small needles
  • You can mix and match shapes to indicate the beginning of a row, etc.
  • The metal is sturdy but thin, so they lie flat against the needles (allowing for more ladder-free knitting, if that makes sense)
  • They’re inexpensive
  • They’re snag-free

I may be thinking too much about it but what do you look for in stitch markers?  Did I miss any qualities that I should be looking out for?

snowbelle trapper hat: ta-da!

This took one evening to complete, but I had more issues with the pattern that I would have expected for something that was $5.  The pattern was easy enough that I probably could have figured it out without purchasing, and the hat is too small.  I ripped it out and added more increase rows at the beginning but it was still too small and I had to block it.  First hat I’ve ever had to block.

I like the pom-pom though — I finally bought some plastic pom-pom makers after all these years of knitting & crocheting, and I love it!  Gonna wanna put pom-poms on everything.  🙂

There’s some other stuff I’m working on too but I’m getting married in less than a month, so planning is in full swing and there have already been a few times I’ve wanted to post something but just didn’t have the energy (like posting takes energy…).

new upcoming pattern release!

I’ve designed a crochet pattern inspired by a hat made by the women’s clothing store Anthropologie, and it will be released soon in a PDF!  Here’s the hat the pattern makes:

The pattern should be moderately easy to follow.  If you’re interested, here’s a photo of the first page of the pattern so you can see the requirements, measurements, etc:

As of now there’s only the one size but if you’ve got a basic knowledge of crochet hat construction you can modify this to fit a larger or much smaller head.

recuerdos de infancia crochet shawl: ta-da!

Using 691 yards of Cascade Yarns Alpaca Lace Paints (colorway 9989) and a US E hook, my Recuerdos de Infancia shawl is complete!

This was a fun shawl to make, just like the first one I made years ago in sock weight yarn.  I’m really happy with this, and this yarn is SO SOFT.  Like, so soft it was hard to tie off the ends because the knots were so silky.  I’m impressed, but this is 100% Alpaca.

Can’t wait until it starts to get cooler so I can actually wear this, but it’s still averaging 90 degrees (F) every day (although I must say after the weeks of 100+ this almost feels nice).
