please bear with me

I’m editing the appearance of nyac again.  Aside from the fact that I enjoy doing this (can you tell?), I really do have a good reason — I changed the theme so that this blog will be more readable on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.  I know that some of you went through the CAL using such devices and I’m only sorry I didn’t do this earlier.  It’ll be done within the next few days!

life events

Life event #1:  I’m 25 years old now.

Life event #2:  I’m officially moving to another city!  It’s where my boyfriend works, and since I don’t have a real job at this point I figured I can just follow him and look for one there.  It’s going to be my first rented house (I’m in an apartment now)!  I’m excited, so I wanted to share some pictures with you!

I believe it’s about 100 years old.  The back yard is completely fenced in, and I believe the man renting the house to us will allow me to do some gardening in the front so that the beds don’t look so sad.  Now about the inside pictures: the girl who has just vacated this property left a lot of trash and junk, but the landlord is going to clean it all up before we move in.

This is the living room; the door on the right is the front door.  The place where I stood to take this is the dining room:

The door to the left leads to some stairs to some attic storage, which is nice.  Then through the right of the dining room is the kitchen:

It’s very small but at least the paint is nice and light!  There’s no dishwasher, but I don’t mind washing dishes by hand.  The refrigerator is oddly not in the kitchen — it is around a corner:

The washer and dryer will be wonderful since my washer and dryer both broke in the span of a week, and I’ve been going to the laundromat ever since.  Then to the right of these appliances is the back door:

The yard comes with a storage shed.  It obviously needs to be mowed and stuff but that’ll be taken care of and it’ll be a lovely space for the dog, who has been cooped up in an apartment for 2 years.

This is the spare room, which is off the kitchen (but there’s a little hall area that leads to this room from the living room, as well, so it makes a circle).  In the little hall is the bathroom:

It’s absolutely tiny, and it’s the only one in the house.  I’ve got major Pinterest plans for it, though, so I think it’s going to be just fine.  I’ve got some good storage solutions already.  Then off the little hall is also the master bedroom:

I don’t know why the girl left a recliner or all of her curtains… Well, they’ll have to go.  By the way, all of these rooms are bigger than they look — it was impossible to get far back enough to get a full picture with the camera on my phone.  There’s actually plenty of room in here as well as in the living room.  Lastly, one of my favorite parts is these:

Most of the doors in the house have these lovely doorknobs, and I think they’re perfect!

I really do like the house.  I know it is kind of small but it is my first house and I feel like it’s a very lucky thing to have found (especially since rent is lower than expected and the owner has no problem with letting a pit bull live there — I’m telling you, it’s a nightmare because nobody will give my baby girl a chance).  I think once all the trash and junk is gone and it’s cleaned up a bit it will be a very sweet house with nice character, and I can’t wait to move in and start decorating!  The landlord said stuff can be brought in in about a week, but our lease doesn’t officially start until mid-October so I won’t be living there for another couple of weeks.

My parents came up for my birthday and brought me not only a Boston creme pie and some good Arkansas barbecue but also a lovely old fashioned wooden bread box, which will be a lovely display and handy storage.  They took me shopping as well and got me some much needed shoes and pants, as well as a few things for the house.  I’m very lucky!

Life event #3:  Last night I went with my boyfriend and some of our friends to a birthday celebration dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant, and we had a snuggly outdoor movie afterwards.  All in all, a very very satisfactory and happy birthday weekend!

Oh and I almost forgot to mention this really cool blog that has tips for finding your decorating style — I followed the instructions and did indeed end up learning about how I truly want my home to be!  Click here for that.  Also if you want to see my moving/decorating Pinterest board, which is full of ideas for small bathrooms and small kitchens, click here.  Can you tell I’ve spent a ton of time on this already?  Hehe.  Well, it was once my plan to be an interior designer!

Thanks for stopping by today!  I’ll be back to yarny pursuits soon, I’m sure, but bear with me if it’s not as frequent as usual.  The move is going to take a lot of time!  See you soon!

CAL: week 15

Hello everyone!  We’ve got a shorter week this week — only 6 rows instead of 8.  This is in part to give anyone behind a little chance to catch up, and in part to just give us a small rest.  We’ll be using US terms, as usual, and last week we stopped on row 110:

That’s all for this week!  Short and sweet.  Thanks for stopping by!

foot update

Thanks everyone for the get-well wishes!  You all really cheered me up, for sure.

My sprained foot was feeling better yesterday so I thought I’d try to work a short shift on the food truck (standing didn’t hurt and of course I need the money).  I should not have gone — this morning it was sore and more painful to walk on because of it (also, driving was a bit slow; it’s good I didn’t have to go very far).  Chris is making sure I keep my foot iced and wrapped and elevated, and right now it’s alright.  I don’t think over all that it’s getting worse, I just shouldn’t be working on it.  While it doesn’t really feel worse now, it does look worse; Chris says the discoloration and swelling are results of the natural pooling of the blood and that it’s not anything to worry about (I’m glad he used to be an athletic trainer).  I think it looks fascinating — wanna see?

foot

You can see where I’d had my little brace thing on, which helped with the swelling so it’s not as obvious here.  The discoloration looks so weird, doesn’t it?  This was this morning, and the dark patches have spread a little, but it’s pretty much the same.  Sorry, you probably don’t care about the details of my foot, haha.  I’m just fascinated because I haven’t really seen anything like this in person before (that I can remember clearly).

I have not ruled out going to a doctor if it starts feeling worse, but I feel like right now as long as I do what Chris says, it’ll be OK.  He said I can’t wear flip-flops for at least a month, which really irks me because I love my Rainbows sandals and it’s really hot to wear sneakers all the time (not to mention mine are dirty and falling apart).  But he says sneakers will give more support, and since I can lace them up tightly it’ll be extra good.  *sigh*  I’ll do what he says.   Maybe it’ll just be an excuse to get a cute new pair of sneakers… 😉

Well, thanks for stopping by.  I’ll take it easy from now on and not try to over-do things, so the crocheting is ON!

ow.

What a couple of days it’s been!  My car needs a really expensive fix (about half of what the whole car costs, so I don’t know what’s gonna happen there).  In the meantime I’m driving Dad’s truck, but the first day I drove it it sat in the sun too long and the glue holding the rearview mirror on gave out.  Mirror swinging wildly by a cord, today I drove it to the shop to get it fixed.  I was planning on eating afterwards — they said it would be an hour.  It was 2 hours, and I was quite hungry and had been sitting in an uncomfortable chair.  Standing up to go pay, my foot which had been asleep without me noticing completely gave out.  I fell but caught myself against the wall and limped in pain to the cashier desk, wherupon I connected the cashier with my dad via tellephone and had to be led to sit down — my vision went black.  Someone had to drive me and my Dad’s truck home.  Now I can’t really walk at all.  Thank goodness Chris is home from his job and could look at it — he used to be an athletic trainer and so quickly identified what was wrong.  It’s a bad sprain from rolling my ankle.  It doesn’t hurt much unless I try to walk, which is a problem since I had to call my boss and tell him I couldn’t be there tonight and might not be able to go tomorrow.  It’s my right foot so I probably won’t be able to drive, much less stand for hours on end.  What scared me was the blacking out part, because I never actually fainted but my vision was gone, I was dizzy, and broke into a sweat.  Possibly low blood sugar.  Possibly low blood pressure.  Possibly shock from the pain.  It’s happened before but not this bad.  Not sure, but I do know that I was incredibly embarrassed and I NEED to go to work tomorrow.

Wanna see my foot?  Some people think feet are gross anyway, so if you do, look away!

foot1

Extra gross, right?  It’s not usually all swollen and multi-colored.  Actually I like my feet when they are normal looking, but this foot is just sad.  In real life it actually looks a bit worse than this, but you get the general idea.

Chris immediately wrapped it in an Ace bandage and put an ice pack on it and elevated it to the arm of the couch I’m currently lounging on.  Now it looks like this:

foot2

Now I’m all wrapped up in my cozy blanket (the ta-dah moment of which can be seen here).  It cheers me up and I’m not all tensed and panicky anymore (I freaked out because I was home alone for a bit and was scared I’d black out and not be able to get help).

I may take a nap.  I feel so much better now that Chris is here.  I literally don’t have anybody else that I know of who lives in this town that could help in an emergency.

On the bright side, I’ll have plenty of time to work on the CAL now, and I’m sure glad I went to the laundromat and walked the dog yesterday evening.  Maybe I can even convince Chris to cook me dinner.  He’s taking such good care of me!

Just wanted to let you all into my exciting few hours.  I’ll admit it’s very overwhelming (because there’s tons of other stressful stuff going on at the moment too) but to be honest typing it out gets me to relax a bit more about it.

I’ll talk to you again soon, I expect.  Take care, and don’t let your legs fall asleep and catch you unawares!
