Knitting has sort of taken over lately, but I’ve been missing crochet and have been searching Ravelry for the perfect crochet pattern or idea. Inspiration came instead from Instagram, and I started a simple granny triangle shawl:
It’s more rainbow-y than what I usually go for in terms of the wide range of colors — usually my ombre yarns are more subtle and just shift through the hues and tones of two or three colors. I think this looks great for fall and winter though.
The yarn is Lion Brand Landscapes (new Aran) in 204 Desert Spring. It’s 100% acrylic & each ball is 147 yds. I have 4 balls but I think I’ll need more to make a decent sized shawl. If you are interested in getting this yarn, go to Wal-Mart, if there’s one around you, or order it on their website, where it’s under $5 per ball. On other online sites it can be upwards of $6.
The yarn is soft considering it’s acrylic and I hope it’s warm too — it’s finally starting to get cold here, at least in the mornings. It dropped below freezing for the first time this season last night!

not your average crochet 
Great new project! Isn’t it funny how when we are doing one craft, we miss another? It definitely can be a struggle to fit them all in. I have not knitted or crocheted in a while and I am missing them both. But I am currently trying to finish up a cross stitch project in order to start another that I will need to finish in a few months. Thank you for all the info on the yarn. It looks so soft and lovely. I will definitely be checking this one out.

Lovely yarn and colours. I haven’t tried the Landscapes yet. I suppose I should really use up some of what I have before I buy more!!!

Hi Hannah! I love this shawl…..so much so that I have my Landscapes yarn ready to go! Just have to copycat yours, its sooo beautiful……hope you don’t mind, I just finished another project and now ready to start this one. I like this shawl as its a denser pattern . It looked simple enough I didn’t think I would need a pattern, but after reading your latest email about it being a bit tricky, you have me worried. I’m so hoping you will get the directions written soon! Thanks so much!
P.s. I used the Landscapes yarn for a scarf that turned out beautifully.

No problem, I’ll get on that ASAP! Basically if you know granny squares already don’t do the ch1 between clusters and do 3ch at the point of the shawl where it turns. The edges are more complicated to explain without a closeup pic but I’ll get on that ASAP! 🙂
