How do you decide on what order to use your colors?
I like to try to evenly space dark and light colors, cool and warm colors, and colors in the same family, but that’s not always easy! Each color in this blanket (except for the purple that’s for the border) has now been used once, and it’s time to decide whether to repeat this color pattern or do like I did in the as-we-go stripey blanket and mix them up while still trying to follow those “rules.” Decisions, decisions.
This is a very enjoyable pattern; it looks great, is easy to memorize, isn’t too hard on the hands, works up relatively quickly, and is totally unique!
Will update with more soon. Thanks for stopping by!
That is so beautiful. My hands are so ready to try that soon. Date: Tue, 14 Apr 2015 16:15:49 +0000 To: cecilechappell@hotmail.com

I would say keep your accent colours at regular intervals, and play around with the order of the more neutral colours. That way the blanket will have an overall regularity without looking boring or machine made. e.g. every 3 repeats you could do a rust/teal combination but vary the 3 colours in-between, swapping the pink for the beige, or swapping the green for the grey …

That is SUCH a good idea, thank you! I’ve already crocheted ahead and ended up doing repeats of the color pattern but I’m going to try your suggestion on a future item, that sounds perfect!
