In other life news, Chris and I have been thinking about getting a firearm for our home for a while now and we’ve been prompted to speed things up a bit due to a worrisome ex-coworker of Chris’ who is apparently on drugs & very unstable. I’m going to go to a shooting range nearby and get a few lessons from a certified instructor so that I know how to safely handle a gun. Shoutout and thanks to Chris’ parents for helping us with this process!
Also, I’m going to be starting therapy/counseling myself next Tuesday; I love going to counseling and I’ve been struggling a bit lately so I think it’s going to be really good for me (which will make things better for Chris, as well). I don’t know how often I’ll go but I’d like to do it once a week, and fortunately my job is flexible and willing to work with me. The counselor works on a sliding scale so the cost is really low compared to standard pricing. Shoutout and thanks to my parents for helping me with this process!

OMG a firearm in your home… That is such an alien concept here in UK. Feel really sad that you should need to have to even contemplate this. However, I have never been to the USA and would never think of making judgements on decent people. I pray that you both never need to use it. XXXX

I agree with gordonsmummys comment. That seems so strange to us in England. Do you think you could actually fire at someone? Hopefully you won’t ever have to.

I hope I’ll never have to, as well, but I think I could do it if I was alone in my home in a life threatening situation. Hopefully that’ll never happen, either!

The shawl is beautiful! This last year I bought a gun and learned how to use it. I used to be afraid of them, now I understand how to respect them and handle them properly. No different than learning how to chop vegetables in my kitchen with a very sharp knife! I never leave my knife laying around, and I certainly won’t leave my gun laying around. It’s nice to know if we’re hiking up where there are bear, we have a gun and it’s also nice to know that if someone enters your house you can protect yourself. It’s also so much fun to target shoot! Blessings!

Great decision to purchase a firearm for protection. It’s almost sad that those in the UK don’t understand this concept. Many people have been saved by owning their own weapon. I highly recommend joining the NRA – lots of tips and pointers. I don’t yet have my gun, but really hope to get one soon. Intruders in the home – most of the time – if they see you with a weapon, they will flee!
As long as you are taking lessons and learn proper safe handling, it’s NOT dangerous. If you have children – even young ones, many shooting ranges will have classes for them so they learn to respect a gun and what it’s for. It is better you protect your home and your children than to ‘wish’ you had had one after the fact. I really enjoy shooting at the range. NRA certified instructors are great – and you will start to become very comfortable handling that weapon….and feel safer knowing it’s there. I do suggest you try to fire your weapon of choice before buying. Most ranges do rent out a wide range of guns so that you can work with what you are going to have. Different guns “feel” very different when firing so it’s good to try before you buy.

No need to feel sad for us, thank you. We’ve read the statistics and know we’re safer without them, and no one over here feels the need for a gun. We’d rather do without the mass shootings.

I was raised in a family of hunters. It was the way our family was fed. I learned gun safety at an early age. As an adult, my husband and I have safely raised 3 children in our home with no incidents. Get into a routine of safe gun handling. Go through those steps EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.. If you put the gun safe in the bedroom but don’t always go to the bedroom when you’re ready to not carry, get another safe. Put it in a convenient place. Safety is key. I hope counseling goes well for you. It may be difficult at first but stay with it! You deserve to put all of that behind you. Sending hugs ❤
