How did everyone like the chevrons last week? Everyone’s blankets are looking fantastic — I’m so excited to see this project really taking shape! Are you ready for this week? We’re just repeating what we’ve already done now, so any frustrating bits are hopefully over and done with!
This week we’ll be doing 9 rows, just because I didn’t want to end the week in the middle of a stitch pattern. Next week we’ll be back to 8. Don’t forget we’re using US terms!
Last week we left off after finishing row 37:

With new colors, work these three rows in the granny stripe pattern.

Make sure row 45 is a right side row. Do the star stitch the same way you did it before:

Ooooo I love it! I haven’t really thought about a border yet — I really like what you did on your greenway blanket, and I also like the idea of scallops, but I’m not sure.

Hannah – maybe you can share something with us – how many of us around the world are working on this, that you know of? Another CAl person and I have found each other’s blogs through this project, and it made me wonder how many more connections are out there?

To be honest, I’m not exactly sure myself. I believe around 15 people have posted photos of their progress on the facebook page, but I know there are more people participating. When the CAL is over I’m going to ask everyone to send me a picture of their finished blankets so that I can make a nice collage for us all to see, so hopefully that will give me a better clue of how many people joined in. I’m sorry I’m not much help!

That is a fine answer – I was just curious. I think it is very cool that so many people around the world are doing it and others following it. It feels like the base for a sociology study on communities in the 21st century. Needs a small grant, don’t you think? 🙂

It would be interesting to learn more about this type of community, that’s for sure! It really did surprise me that so many people are taking part in the CAL — I guess this kind of thing is really growing (I don’t think people really did this sort of thing a few years ago). 🙂

I think you are right – certainly I never did, this is my first, that’s why I was a little surprised at the scope of it. I am glad I am doing it, meeting lots of people from different parts of the world. Like a virtual crochet circle.

It is indeed! It’s nice because I only have 1 non-Internet friend who crochets and I don’t always get to see her much, so having an Internet community is a lot less lonely! 🙂

I can see how it would be so! I don’;t really have a knitting group – just my mom and sister, and occasionally a sister-in-law or niece. And we all know each other so well; this is a fun change, seeing different color choices, reading about life in other places.
