bean stitch

I don’t remember where I learned this stitch, but I love it!  I hope you do, too!

what you can do with it:

This stitch would be great at the beginning or the end of a scarf or blanket, and since it looks the same on both sides you could actually use it for a whole scarf or blanket if you really like it!  That’s what I’d do with this stitch, anyway.

how to do it:

ch any odd number

Row 1: insert hook in 3rd ch from hook, draw loop through; yoh, insert hook in same ch, draw loop through; insert hook in same ch, draw loop through (should have 6 ch on hook); yoh and pull through all loops, then ch1 to close stitch.  Skip a stitch, insert hook in next st, draw loop through; yoh, insert hook in same ch, draw loop through, insert hook in same ch, draw loop through (6 ch on hook total); yoh and pull through all loops, then ch 1 to close stitch.  Continue to the end of the row.  Ch2 and turn.

Row 2: insert hook in second stitch (the one after where the turning chs are), draw loop through; yoh, insert hook in same st, draw loop through; yoh, insert hook in same st, draw loop through (should have 6 loops on hook); yoh and pull through all loops, then ch 1 to close stitch.  Continue bean stitch across.

Repeat row 2 and you’ve got a fabric made with the bean stitch!
